Cabinet FAQs2025-06-20T10:01:54-10:00

Have questions about kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, or our design process? You’re in the right place. Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions we get from homeowners and contractors across Kauai. From understanding the differences between RTA vs. custom cabinets, to choosing framed or frameless styles, we’re here to help you make informed decisions about your project.

Q: What are RTA Cabinets?2025-02-07T11:25:44-10:00

A: RTA (Ready-to-Assemble) cabinets are semi-customizable pre-manufactured cabinets that are flat-packed, requiring assembly before installation. Unlike custom cabinets, which are built to your specific design and dimensions, RTA cabinets come in standard sizes and styles, but still offer some variety in terms of finishes, materials, and configurations.

Pros:

  • Fast Turnaround: We can usually have your cabinets on island within 4 to 6 weeks. This makes RTA a great option for people looking for a faster renovation timeline.

  • Affordable: Less expensive compared to custom cabinets.

  • DIY-Friendly: Perfect for homeowners who want to save on installation costs and have the time and skills to assemble and install the cabinets themselves.

Cons:

  • Limited Customization: RTA cabinets come in fixed sizes and layouts, so they may not fit unusual or unique spaces as well as custom cabinets.

  • Assembly Time: The assembly process can take time and effort, and may not be ideal for those who prefer a more hands-off installation process, but we can assemble them for you!

Q: Which should I choose: Custom Cabinets or RTA Cabinets?2025-02-07T11:25:17-10:00

Choosing between RTA (Ready-to-Assemble) cabinets and custom cabinets depends on several factors, including budget, style, and how much you’re willing to invest in time, effort, and money.

Choose RTA Cabinets if:

  • You don’t need highly customized designs and are satisfied with standard sizes.
  • You need cabinets quickly at affordable prices.
  • You’re comfortable assembling and installing the cabinets yourself or have a contractor to work with you. (Don’t worry if you don’t, we can help you will install too!)

Choose Custom Cabinets if:

  • You want a unique, high-quality, and highly personalized kitchen.
  • You have a specific design vision and need cabinets that are made to fit your space perfectly.
  • You’re willing to invest more time and money for a premium product.
  • You don’t mind waiting longer for your cabinets to be built and installed.
Q: Can you assemble my RTA Cabinets for me?2025-02-07T11:30:25-10:00

Yes, we have solutions to fit your needs! You can purchase RTA or assembled cabinets. You can pick up or we can deliver for a fee, and you can install or we can install them for you! Whatever you need, we got you covered! It’s entirely up to you.

Q: Which is better: Framed or frameless kitchen cabinets?2025-02-07T11:44:56-10:00

When deciding between framed and frameless kitchen cabinets, it really comes down to personal preference, style, and functional needs. Both options have their pros and cons, so here’s a breakdown to help you choose the best option for your kitchen:

Framed Cabinets:

Framed cabinets have a visible front frame, typically made of wood, that surrounds the cabinet box. This frame supports the doors and gives the cabinet structure.

Pros:

  • 1

Durability: The frame adds strength and rigidity, making these cabinets more stable, which can be important for large or heavy doors.

  • 2

More Options for Hardware: Framed cabinets often have more options for hardware, such as knobs and pulls, which can be mounted on the frame itself.

  • 3

Traditional Style: They are commonly used in traditional or classic kitchen designs, offering a more established, structured look.

  • 4

Cost-Effective: Framed cabinets tend to be less expensive than frameless cabinets due to the simpler design and manufacturing process.

Cons:

  • 1

Less Accessible Space: The frame reduces the amount of space inside the cabinet, limiting the overall storage capacity compared to frameless designs.

  • 2

Limited Door Opening: The frame can also restrict how wide the cabinet doors can open, which may affect accessibility, especially in larger cabinets.

Frameless Cabinets:

Frameless cabinets, also called European-style cabinets, do not have the front frame. The doors are attached directly to the cabinet box, which maximizes the space inside.

Pros:

  • 1

More Storage Space: Without a frame, frameless cabinets usually provide more interior storage space, which is useful for storing larger items.

  • 2

Fuller Access: The lack of a frame means the doors can open wider, giving you better access to the contents of the cabinet.

  • 3

Modern, Sleek Look: Frameless cabinets offer a clean, contemporary look that works well in modern or minimalist kitchens.

  • 4

More Efficient Use of Space: The absence of a frame maximizes every inch inside the cabinet, which can be helpful in tight kitchen spaces.

Cons:

  • 1

Less Sturdy: Frameless cabinets may not be as structurally strong as framed cabinets, especially for larger, heavier doors. The box relies more on the materials used, so quality construction is essential.

  • 2

More Expensive: Frameless cabinets typically cost more because they require precise construction and materials. Additionally, hardware options may be more limited compared to framed cabinets.

  • 3

Requires Higher Skill for Installation: Because of their design, frameless cabinets often require more expertise to install properly, which could increase installation costs.

Which Is Better?

Go for Framed Cabinets if:

  • You prefer a traditional or classic style.
  • You need a more affordable option.
  • You want added strength and stability, especially for large or heavy doors.
  • You don’t mind the reduced interior space and door accessibility.

Go for Frameless Cabinets if:

  • You want a modern, minimalist, and sleek look.
  • You prioritize maximizing storage space and easier access.
  • You have the budget to spend a bit more on cabinets.
  • You prefer a contemporary style and don’t mind the extra cost and complexity.

Ultimately, both framed and frameless cabinets are great choices, so the decision depends on your design preferences, budget, and how you plan to use your kitchen.

Q: Do you provide custom kitchen cabinets?2025-02-07T14:30:16-10:00

We do not offer fully custom cabinets, but we do offer semi-custom cabinets with features you wouldn’t expect to see in a standard kitchen! Our cabinets always include soft-close doors and drawers and our designs can include lazy-susan trays, spice cabinets, microwave drawers, wine features, corbels, trash pull-outs, and many, many more semi-custom features… all at a fraction of the price and time it takes to do custom cabinets!

Q: Do my cabinets come with a warranty?2025-02-07T14:31:12-10:00

Yes! All cabinets have a minimum one-year warranty, and some of the higher end cabinets have limited lifetime warranties. Warranty information will be provided with your order, depending on the cabinet line selected.
